The Director of Business Development is responsible for managing, prospecting, engaging and selling clients (both agency and pharma companies) digital advertising products across the BioNews portfolio of 50+ disease community websites.  This position will be responsible for managing and growing a book of business while also playing a key role in managing customer satisfaction and client retention.


  • Leverage BioNews media solutions to retain existing business, and establish new pharma DTC business across the BioNews websites & communities; the leading web resource providing rare disease content for patients, caregivers, and providers

  • Working in tandem with the Client Services team to develop materials for meetings, RFPs, and reporting  

  • Responsible for the long-term development of business relationships with executives at agencies and pharma clients

  • Work collaboratively with business development and client services team, along with other departments including Strategy and Growth to identify, source, pitch, define, negotiate, close and manage digital advertising revenue

  • Act as a subject matter expert in the marketplace, working to educate clients about BioNews offerings as it relates to their brands and marketing needs

  • Build awareness and adoption of the company’s offerings through client presentations, conference attendance and direct sales

  • Develop and execute sales strategies for long-term revenue growth and strategic partnerships - travel to agencies/clients as needed

  • Handle client escalations as needed, and be able to work with our team across AdOps and other internal departments


  • You exhibit a strong attention to detail, are thorough, and have excellent organizational skills. 

  • Experience using SalesForce or similar CRM to track all of your engagements.

  • Possess a "can do" attitude, are self-motivated, and are driven to succeed. 

  • Strong decision-making, interpersonal, and leadership skills. 

  • An eagerness to work in a start-up team environment, often presented with both change and opportunities. 

  • Willing to go the extra mile to service clients and close business deals. 

  • Educator and business professional who enjoys connecting with clients to maximize business relationships



  • Bachelor's degree in business, management, or a related field 

  • Understanding of the digital media landscape  

  • 3+ years' experience in digital ad sales and/or client services with a proven track record of contributing to revenue growth  

  • Experience with SalesForce or similar CRM to track sales activities.

  • Existing relationships and contacts with agencies and clients across the pharma landscape.
