ABOUT THE ROLE
As a Senior Data Engineer, you will be instrumental in designing, developing, and optimizing Bionews’ data infrastructure. You will work closely with Business Intelligence, Analytics, and Marketing teams to build scalable ETL pipelines, a high-performance BigQuery data warehouse, and a unified Customer Data Platform (CDP). Your work will ensure data is accurate, reliable, and actionable, empowering strategic decision-making across the company.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Data Pipeline Development & Management:

  • Design, build, and maintain scalable ETL pipelines that efficiently ingest and transform data from multiple sources.
  • Automate data workflows to ensure timely and accurate data availability for downstream analytics and reporting.

Data Warehousing & Analytics:

  • Develop and optimize BigQuery data models for performance, scalability, and cost efficiency.
  • Collaborate with BI and analytics teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions that power interactive dashboards and data-driven decision-making.

Customer Data Platform (CDP) Integration:

  • Integrate and manage a Customer Data Platform (CDP) to consolidate and activate user data across multiple channels..
  • Work with marketing and business teams to ensure the CDP delivers real-time, actionable insights for personalized engagement and improved decision-making.

Data Quality, Monitoring & Performance Tracking:

  • Implement comprehensive data quality checks and monitoring systems to maintain data accuracy and reliability.
  • Track key performance indicators within our data pipelines and troubleshoot issues to ensure seamless operations.

Cloud Infrastructure & Cost Optimization:

  • Manage data infrastructure on Google Cloud (GCP), optimizing for performance, scalability, and cost.
  • Monitor BigQuery usage and costs, implementing optimizations to improve query efficiency.

Technical Excellence & Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Engage directly in coding, problem-solving, and architecture refinement to continuously improve our data infrastructure.
  • Work with cross-functional teams—including BI developers and data analysts—to ensure that data solutions align with both technical standards and business needs.
  • Support ad-hoc data requests and urgent initiatives by delivering customized data solutions as needed.

Innovation & Continuous Improvement:

  • Stay current with industry trends, emerging tools, and best practices in data engineering, ETL processes, and cloud technologies.
  • Drive continuous improvements in our data ecosystem by exploring advanced tools such as Airbyte, Airflow, DBT and refining our Dataform models.

 

ABOUT YOU

  • You have significant experience in designing and optimizing ETL pipelines and managing cloud-based data warehouses.
  • You possess advanced proficiency in SQL, Python, and modern ETL tools, with hands-on expertise in BigQuery Dataform and CDP integration.
  • Demonstrated interest in modern programming languages such as Rust, Elixir, or Go, with a strong willingness to explore and adopt emerging technologies for scalable data solutions.
  • You are adept at building scalable data architectures that support interactive dashboards, performance tracking, and actionable insights.
  • You have a collaborative mindset and excellent communication skills, enabling you to work effectively with diverse cross-functional teams.
  • You are proactive, detail-oriented, and passionate about leveraging data to drive strategic decision-making.

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • Extensive experience in data engineering, ETL development, and data warehousing within digital media, health tech, or similar industries.
  • Proven expertise in SQL, Python, BigQuery, and Dataform.
  • Familiarity with data integration tools and cloud-based platforms (preferably Google Cloud Platform) with data governance best practices is a plus.
  • Strong analytical skills and a commitment to data accuracy, integrity, and continuous improvement.
